Where she comes from & where she is now: Genova grew up in Waltham, Massachusetts. She now lives in Chatham, Massachusetts, with her three children.
Where she studied: Genova attended Bates College for her undergraduate degree where she graduated valedictorian and summa cum laude with a degree in Biopsychology. She also has a PhD in Neuroscience from Harvard University.
You might know her from: In addition to this month’s DBC selection, Genova is the author of three other New York Times Bestsellers: Still Alice, Love Anthony, and Inside the O’Briens . In 2014, Still Alice was adapted into a movie starring Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin, Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth, and Hunter Parrish. In 2015, Julianne Moore received the Oscar for Best Actress for her portrayal of Alice Howland.
When’s she’s not writing: Before she began writing, Genova did neuroscience research and taught neuroanatomy at a number of institutions, including Massachusetts General Hospital, Yale Medical School, and Harvard Medical School. She also gave a wildly popular TED talk in 2017 called “What You Can Do To Prevent Alzheimer’s,” which you can watch by clicking here.
